I read a fair bit of history. It's pretty common for the populace to expect their governments to protect them from criminals as best as possible, even in difficult times. I don't think that qualifies as "privilege."

BLM took those "well-intentioned" liberals for a ride. OTOH, the Twin Cities have a number of examples of "good intentions" of liberals gone awry. Such as the St. Paul school district's disastrous experience with "racism-free" school discipline.
