I've always wanted to hire a PR consultant who would say things like "You think THAT's bad . . . ."

The aristocrats have always had to find ways to limit peasants and merchants from purchasing and using the real goodies that are supposed to be reserved for aristos. One of their best setups was to make laws preventing certain classes of people from buying and using luxury items: consumption laws.

The ironic bit about a democracy is that it is one of the better justifications for the elite 1% to rule over humanity compared to say, Jim Jones or North Korean Iron FIst style.
