How about Jim Webb for Secretary of Defense?

Mollie Hemingway makes the argument over at the Federalist.

It's a bit difficult to excerpt, so I'll just link her article.

Long as he's strong enough--and gets the Deputies and Unders to help him--to clean out the excess, the detritus, the bureaucrats masquerading as officers, the superfluous contractors. That's what we need as SecDef.

And SecState and DoJ.

He should have been President. I have no problem with any other office he cares to accept.

We need someone who will bring a flamethrower to a knife fight.
No quarter. We need our military back. Is Webb that man? I don't know.

Once upon a time, he brought grenades to a gunfight.

Is that a waste? I don't know; I don't know the circumstance. But overkill is a waste of resources.

Dead is dead. Much as I'd like to do more, I can kill a Russian only once.

You can read the citation and judge for yourself whether or not it was a waste, or overkill.

It would be both a gesture and a good idea. Hard to beat that. The gesture part would be lost on modern Democrats, but some would remember, and some of those can still write gracefully and wisely.

An elderly psychiatrist once told me "Doing the right thing is seldom effective, but it's never wrong."

Apparently he voted for obamacare? That would cinch a NO for me.

Webb's a Democrat.

I don't like Demoncrats. Some kind of spiritual religious divide there.
