Oh, Really?

On a piece about countering violent extremism:
"It took us some time," Weilnboeck confesses. "We were blindfolded by our conventions of seeing extremism as a product of male violence. That is not true. Extremism is very much a systemic thing in which women have been involved -- always."

"So do make sure that you also work with women and girls," he continues. "And make sure that you work with the young people on their personal concept of being a male or being a female, because you'll find in these concepts everything that is driving violent extremism itself. There is no violent extremist that is not also a sexist or homophobic."
Emphasis added, because:
I would actually put them all in some kind of camp where they can all drive around in quad bikes, or bicycles, or white vans. I would give them a choice of vehicles to drive around with, give them no porn, they wouldn’t be able to fight – we would have wardens, of course! Women who want to see their sons or male loved ones would be able to go and visit, or take them out like a library book, and then bring them back....

And I am sick of hearing from individual women that their men are all right.
It may just be that successful violent extremism is more likely to come out of communities other than those of radical lesbians. That doesn't mean their hearts aren't just as black.

Hamas has been engaged in an advertising campaign to convince Muslims generally that they have an individual, religious duty to murder their neighbors. This has been going on since at least 1988, when the Hamas Covenant was adopted.

They do use sex and drugs to sell murder. That is where all the nonsense about "every sin is forgiven" and "17 virgins" came from. The Daesh have taken it several steps further by reinforcing fantasies, both by recruiting female volunteers to their non-existent paradise, and by capturing and mistreating pussy for the purpose of dehumanizing their fighters. They are hitting all the male adolescent fantasy buttons.

The article makes one very good point: female approval is a very important reinforcer for violent male behavior. The Tsarnev brothers' mother and Salome's mother, not to mention Lady Macbeth, all have a lot in common.

Weilnboeck doesn't seem to know very much about history, including the history of his own country. Witch persecutions were to a considerable extent driven by women, against other women. The Nazi movement in Germany had considerable female support, as did Franco's fascism in Spain.

North Korea's bureaucracy is supported by women, almost.

And some of the elites are female dynastic leaders and leverage pullers.

Throughout history, tyrannical people, nearly always men, have been able to have sex with whoever they wanted: multiple females, other men, children. To be the Less Powerful was considered the shame. Becoming an ally, at whatever cost, was about the only road upward. To be different was to be unreliable - not only in sex, but religion, speech, and the washing of dishes.

To call that sexism and homophobia is truly projecting modern values onto whatever screen is put up in the town square.
