"Meanwhile, in Norway..."

About 27 tonnes of caramelised brown goat cheese - a delicacy known as Brunost - caught light as it was being driven through the Brattli Tunnel at Tysfjord, northern Norway, last week.

The fire raged for five days and smouldering toxic gases were slowing the recovery operation, officials said.

You have no conception how tragic that story is to Norwegian ears. Brunost is really quite delicious. Even I don't hate it, and I don't like cheese.

I suppose I could engage my sympathy by imagining it to be a five-day fire of Guinness!

My son in Tromso sent me a similar item for Christmas.

So? So? How was it?

Someone gave me some goat cheese recently (ordinary chevre) that was wrapped in an "hoja santa" leaf. It was so great that we found a mail-order source for an hoja santa plant, which has come through the winter nicely. I'm looking forward to experimenting.
