Charts!

A newsletter linked me to these WaPo charts, describing any number of U.S. trends by state and by county.  Most of them make Texas look pretty middle-of-the-road.

That by-county map of 'Where the Recession Never Happened' could also be titled 'Where the Recession Never Ended.' All the counties around here are still in recession, and have never recovered from the 2008 crash.

Anyone saying the recession has ended or is ending is nuts and detached from reality. If you were doing well before, you're probably fine. If you were barely making it or struggling, it's worse now and not getting better, excepting the slight improvement from the depths of the recession.
