Ve haff vays of making you compassionate

"The Long Arm of Academic Tolerance" explores the fate of teachers who dare to express political opinions --  oops, I mean hate speech -- in what they used to think of as their private lives.  Or not even a political opinion, just a request that a particular issue be exposed to a public vote.  We absolutely cannot have that.

Yup. I learned to master the art of nodding in agreement, making appropriate noises, and never ever discussing my personal beliefs. One professor commented that I attended a "rich, conservative" church and I said well, I liked the preaching and the extensive social outreach programs. That seemed to mollify her. It's a strange world inside the ivory tower.

That's all fine until you sign a public petition! Eyes in the sky.

Intolerance in the pursuit of tolerance is tolerant.

Moderation in the pursuit of intolerance is not tolerant.

Hmmmm.

Intolerance in the pursuit of tolerance is, apparently, a Federal mandate.

Moderation in the pursuit of intolerance will be violated.

I may have some signs made up saying just that and post them below my Trespassers Will Be Violated signs.

Fair warning being a Southern Hospitality thang and all that.
